Pros: Easy to use, easy to release
Cons: Hard to remove from vent
Pros: Slider works well, usb accessible, good position on vent
Cons: Will it work with your vent? Vertical vents could be an issue.
The iGrip vent mount is a nice addition for using with the Pres gps navigation offerings, bluetooth stereo and handsfree kit. The positioning makes it safer/easier to see maps, music menus and the phone screen.
I replaced an older universal mount and this is a much more compact, yet sturdy solution. I was concerned about the lower lower clips based on some of the earlier reviews here but am happy to report no issue with the version I received. There is a tab on the upper left corner that releases the Pre. It is possible that you could have a problem if you pull on the Pre without releasing it first.
The other possible sticking point (also mentioned in prior reviews) is it connects into horizontal venting. There was no way to change this and it was thankfully not a problem in my vehicle. The mount does not articulate, but I found this made for a cleaner and less bulky design than previous mounts Ive had. You can actually get air from the vent when the Pre is not on it. This is a nice change from the universal mount I had which rendered the vent essentually unusable.
Ive been really impressed with the ease of mounting and dis-mounting the Pre. It is easier to store and access than any other device pair Ive used in my vehicle. Equally impressive is how it was made to allow the slider to work with no impediments. And charging with the usb is not an issue. All in all a well designed mount that could make for a good template should Palm decide to release and inductive charging car mount.
This mount has proven itself to be a sturdy base for the mobile options of the Pre during the month or so (and many a road trip) that Ive had it. Recommended, mobile accomplishers!
Pros: Small footprint, holds Palm Pre securely
Cons: -
Pros: Custom fit bracket
Cons: No pivot / swivel
For comparison, take a look at how the Bracketron unversal vent mount is set up.
