StarStarStarStarStar Love This!
User: Mike Pellerin, Apr 10, 2010

Pros:  So easy to use.
Cons:  None

I love my touchstone. Just drop the phone on it and it charges! What could be simpler? Before the Touchstone, opening that little, flimsy USB door kinda freaked me out. I always thought I was gonna break it. But now, no worries, the Touchstone makes it cable free. (Note: the USB door works better now with more use, like when I USB music. But it still feels so flimsy).

I only have the one Touchstone, but I plan on buying another for travel.

Pros:  Everything
Cons:  None

Works pefectly the first one I bought did a looping thing at night but took it back and got antoher and this works fine some people think it is a software issue but its not. If your having this issue go get a replacement. Got mine on sale at Radio Shack for 44.96.
StarStarStarStarStar Must Have
User: Cyberdactyl D, Oct 30, 2009

Pros:  No cords!
Cons:  Pricey

Because this phone is indeed so different with its aesthetic interface, this induction charging method only adds to the phones flair as an eclectic device.

The bottom sticking surface of the charging unit reminds me of the material sold years ago as "sticky sandals", as it acts like an adhesive, but only utilizes a cohesive force. To re-invigorate the surface just wipe it gently with a warm moist cloth.

The replacement back plate for the phone is also very nice. The feel is sort of a cross between high quality brushed leather and rubber.

It charges the phone quickly, a little less than a percent a minute.

My only con is the phones back plate and stone are maybe 30 above the price point I would have thought appropriate.
StarStarStarStarStar Phenomenal Product
User: Mike Morris, Oct 25, 2009
Having had several phones where you constantly have to fight with an obnoxious cable port that may or may not hold securely, this is truly an incredible product. I just place the phone on the touchstone, and it does all the work. Charge time is remarkably fast considering theres no plug connection. I go from almost dead to fully charged in about two hours. Its really wonderful. Everybody should have one!
StarStarStarStarStar Convenient
User: J Berry, Oct 24, 2009

Pros:  Easy to use
Cons:  Weird noise

Ordered this from precentral and it didnt work. The charger kept turning on and off and making a weird faint beeping sound. HOWEVER, precentral sent me a new one and emailed me a return label (great customer service!). The new one works well. The back door is an upgrade and is grippier than the standard door. The charger is very convenient. It is so nice to just put the phone down on the charger and not have to plug it in. I sometimes still hear this faint beep when the phone is on the touchstone. Not sure what that is, but it is minorly annoying.

I combined this with the Zagg screen protector and I am thoroughly happy. The screen protector is easy to install and is awesome. I am buying them for all my electronic gadgets.
StarStarStarStarStar Great product, extremely fast shipping!
User: Oscar Lemus, Sep 18, 2009

Pros:  Auto-speakerphone, Bedside mode, Easy to use.
Cons:  None for me.

Bought the profuct yesterday and got here today with basic shipping! Easy to set up and easy to use. Very convenient bedside mode, displays notifications and dimmed clock. Places call automatically on speaker as soon as Pre is placed on it. Easy to place the Pre on the touchstone. Just put it on and it wall magnetically self align itself. Recommend for everyoneJ
StarStarStarStarStar Convenient and Easy, but....
User: Cezarsf P, Oct 22, 2009

Pros:  Convenience
Cons:  Nightmode Light does not have option to go off!

I love having the touchstone! It makes my charging so easy and convenient. No more messing with the USB micro door on the PRE.
My only wish is that it came with the option to switch the Nightlight mode to off! This annoys me when I am trying to sleep at night!
I can deal with the da-ding noise when placing it on charger.
I would recommend this product and possibly purchase more later.
Hopefully the next Palm WebOS update will have a patch for the night light option.
StarStarStarStarStar Slick and highly usable
User: Pete Koning, Oct 9, 2009

Pros:  Elegant, Usable
Cons:  Bottom edge doesnt fit quite right

A must-have accessory for the pre. We have two, one in my wifes car and another centrally-located.

We love being able to use it hands free, especially in the car.

It was straightforward to install.

I dont find the fit as tight as the original case thought. The bottom of the new case now has a prominent sharp ridge that I find very annoying. Other than that, were satisfied.
StarStarStarStarStar It works
User: David Fischer, Nov 5, 2009

Pros:  Is very Convenient, cool "toy" to show friends
Cons:  Will Not charge overnight, Need to take off when fully charged

This is a very cool innovation by palm, my toothbrush uses the same idea. If you dont already know, you install the new backplate (i love the finish, doesnt show finger prints and feels more secure in my hand while i hold it) which fits nice and flush like the original. you then plug your charger into the dock and set the phone down.
however, after the phone gets to 94 charged it will stop charging and will drain to under 94 and start charging again, no big deal right?? well it gives you the "battery charging" notification every time and makes the little "beep boop" sound, very annoying. also dont think about using it to charge your Pre overnight, you will wake up to a dead phone that you will need to plug in (the Touchstone will not charge a dead phone) to get enough charge for it to start up again, very annoying. granted i believe these are software (power management) issues that should be fixable so look for a new update that fixes these bugs.
StarStarStarStarStar Great idea, works in car, too...
User: Michael Verive, Aug 28, 2009

Pros:  Keeps the physical charger port on the Pre from damage, works well in car
Cons:  -

I would have given this 5 stars, since its a great idea (hold phone securely and at a great angle for desk/car), and already a bit pricey, especially since it doesnt come with its own power adapter.

I initially purchased this for my car, since I didnt want to fumble with attaching the car adapter to the phone, and risk damaging the connector. It appeared to be a great solution to the problem of where to mount my Pre so that it was visible, readily available, and convenient.

My original car adapter didnt quite fit either, as the plug was just a bit too big for the Touchstones hole. I had to grind it down a bit, and now it fits perfectly. It sits comfortably on my dash, although the adhesive on the bottom doesnt stick well, so I added some Velcro, and its snug now. The phone stays in place even on bumpy roads, although it seems to lose its "connection" with the Touchstone briefly until eveything settles down. The autodimming, phone display, and hands-free operation make it great for the car as well as the desk, so now I have 3 Touchstones (home, work, car).

What we need now is a Palm Pre Touchstone that incorporates a Bluetooth speakerphone for phone and audio. Probably not much use in the car, but at home or the office it would be perfect...
StarStarStarStarStar Touchstone kit should come with power cord
User: Doug Bracken, Jul 20, 2009

Pros:  Super convenient with great features such as auto speakerphone and dimmed clock
Cons:  Does not come with cord or wall adapter. If you plan on buying this to have a spare charger, you can't use it without also buying a wall charger.

Although I am pretty sure that Palm would tell me that the Touchstone charging system is not designed to be used in the car, I have installed one in the car and love what it does for this purpose. (You have to purchase the PALM brand cigarette cord as no other adapter will fit in the square adapter of the Touchstone base).
When the Touchstone base is mounted in a flat position with the included stick on surface, the Pre rests securely on the Touchstone in one of 4 possible positions for charging and hands free functions. The automatic hands free and dimmed clock features are a bonus to getting the phone charged while on the Touchstone. Have you ever fumbled to get a cord plugged into your Pre while driving?....No more if you have this set-up! I also have a mini-jack that connects to the Stereo in the car connected while on the Touchstone – running all music, phone calls, etc through the stereo in the car.

A little glitch with this in-car setup that could be addressed through software changes / updates
1) The motion detector (accelerometer) in the phone triggers the chime that tells you the phone is on the Touchstone and charging – even when braking or accelerating the car. I’m not talking about vibration or movement affecting the connection to the Touchstone – the connection is very solid and stable on the Touchstone. What fixes this for the most part is setting the ringer switch to the vibrate position. The chime is gone for driving and when listening to music, but still chimes in a phone conversation – for this I just unplug the Touchstone from power if I am in a stop and go situation and on the phone.

StarStarStarStarStar a bad charger
User: jorge ortz, Jan 3, 2010

Pros:  great design.
Cons:  tons of issues

i have have returned the first one and now im on my second charger.
first, the phone has to be on to charge so, if the battery is completely drained you have to still plug it back in to the wall charger.
second, once it reaches 100 it stops/starts/stops/starts.(it makes a charging notification sound) its happened to me a couple of times that i have woken up in the morning and my cell phone has not bin charged.

It works perfect charging it from 2-100
so if you want to use it as a charger for the office its great.
StarStarStarStarStar Touchstone drained the battery
User: A H, Dec 21, 2009
I bought the Touchstone Base Kit about a month ago and didnt have any problems. Then, when I thought it was charging, it seems to have drained the battery. Now it wont register a charge at all when I put the Pre on it. Not sure if it is a bad unit or if it speaks to the quality of products sold on this site. Either way, very disappointing.
StarStarStarStarStar Needs work
User: Stephen J. Drahos, Dec 15, 2009

Pros:  Cool
Cons:  Does not work

Concept is great but execution is poor. Why? After reaching 100 charge, phone then starts to "connect" and "disconnect" repeatedly with an annoying beeping. Very common complaint (google and see).

Am returning it.
