It works
User: David Fischer, Nov 5, 2009
Pros: Is very Convenient, cool "toy" to show friends
Cons: Will Not charge overnight, Need to take off when fully charged
This is a very cool innovation by palm, my toothbrush uses the same idea. If you dont already know, you install the new backplate (i love the finish, doesnt show finger prints and feels more secure in my hand while i hold it) which fits nice and flush like the original. you then plug your charger into the dock and set the phone down.
however, after the phone gets to 94 charged it will stop charging and will drain to under 94 and start charging again, no big deal right?? well it gives you the "battery charging" notification every time and makes the little "beep boop" sound, very annoying. also dont think about using it to charge your Pre overnight, you will wake up to a dead phone that you will need to plug in (the Touchstone will not charge a dead phone) to get enough charge for it to start up again, very annoying. granted i believe these are software (power management) issues that should be fixable so look for a new update that fixes these bugs.

Great idea, works in car, too...

Pros: Keeps the physical charger port on the Pre from damage, works well in car
Cons: -
I would have given this 5 stars, since its a great idea (hold phone securely and at a great angle for desk/car), and already a bit pricey, especially since it doesnt come with its own power adapter.
I initially purchased this for my car, since I didnt want to fumble with attaching the car adapter to the phone, and risk damaging the connector. It appeared to be a great solution to the problem of where to mount my Pre so that it was visible, readily available, and convenient.
My original car adapter didnt quite fit either, as the plug was just a bit too big for the Touchstones hole. I had to grind it down a bit, and now it fits perfectly. It sits comfortably on my dash, although the adhesive on the bottom doesnt stick well, so I added some Velcro, and its snug now. The phone stays in place even on bumpy roads, although it seems to lose its "connection" with the Touchstone briefly until eveything settles down. The autodimming, phone display, and hands-free operation make it great for the car as well as the desk, so now I have 3 Touchstones (home, work, car).
What we need now is a Palm Pre Touchstone that incorporates a Bluetooth speakerphone for phone and audio. Probably not much use in the car, but at home or the office it would be perfect...
