StarStarStarStarStar AWESOME!!
User: Ryan Fulcher, Oct 7, 2011

Pros:  Poweres touchstone in vehicle.
Cons:  doesnt make my breakfast.

I had been using a cheap power inverter and palm wall plug to power the touchstone in my car, but it introduced some audible noise (from the inverter) when listening to audio from my phone. So I picked up one of these Palm 12v vehicle chargers and was thrilled to discover that it powered the touchstone in my car without fail. The audio noise is gone since the power to the touchstone is now clean. I had tried using other aftermarket 12v microusb phone chargers to power the touchstone in the past but none worked till now. This also works well for charging any other micro-usb device. I should buy a few more so I can put a touchstone in our other family vehicles or use them to charge my Pre3. Oh, Wait. *Sobs*
StarStarStarStarStar Works with Touchstone!

Finally, a car charger that works with the Touchstone in my car.
Thank you Pre Central!
StarStarStarStarStar works great
User: Nancy Szary, Apr 17, 2011

Pros:  works with touchstone, can use with lighter or USB port
Cons:  adds to car cord clutter

This works great. I have it set up in my car with a lighter spliter (for other lighter needs) and a touch stone. It connected with out any problem. I like that it has two parts that are each useful.

I can use it without the lighter adaptor and charge via USB port. This has been very helpful when visiting family in a weak signal area. I just grab my cable and charge off their computer.

Also, I can use just the lighter adaptor with other devices that charge via USB. Every helpful on road trips for my many other toys (or other peoples stupid iproducts).
StarStarStarStarStar Fits My Old BMW 325i Lighter
User: Richard Burnett, Jan 24, 2011

Pros:  Sleek Design
Cons:  None I Can Think Of

I originally purchased a universal cigarette lighter charger from my local Sprint store. I turned it back in for a full refund 5 minutes later, as it would not fit in my 1990 BMW 325i convertible. The Sprint version, while it looked nice, just rattled around and would not make contact.

Im thinking its my worn-out car, but decided to try the Palm Vehicle Power Charger anyway. The Palm makes good contact, and works perfectly. I am very satisfied, and I think most people would be, too.
StarStarStarStarStar Works exactly as advertised
User: Jeff Dodson, Dec 8, 2009

Pros:  Charges phone even when apps are running
Cons:  none

I just ordered this charger and it works perfectly. This added charge to the phone even when several apps were running, including Sprint Navigation. Also, it came with a little pig tale adapter to charge a Centro or 755. I tried it on a Centro and it works. The reviewers who trashed this charger must have been speaking about a different model, this one is Palm OEM equipment and works as expected.
StarStarStarStarStar Works perfectly for me
User: Mahlon Gumbs, Aug 10, 2009

Pros:  Nice design, works as advertised
Cons:  none

So I was a little worried about getting this because of the mixed reviews. I took a chance on it and am glad I did. It works. I have not had any of the issues that many have had. I just did a test. My pre had 33 batter power left. I took it for a drive (35 minutes) using pandora and sprint nav. I had everything enabled (including bluetooth) except wi-fi. My pre charged to 45 during that short drive.

So...works for me.
StarStarStarStarStar Guaranteed to Charge
User: Demetrius Jenkins, Jul 31, 2009

Pros:  Small Charger, Charges even with Touchstone even with Pandora & SprintNav running
Cons:  Short cord (Could be a pro depending on your setup), Not the cheapest option

After trying 2 other cheaper options, this was the one that charged my Pre at about 2 per minute. It also charged the Pre about 3 over 25 min while running SprintNav and Pandora!

I wish the cord was longer, but the cord fits the Touchstone without any modifications. Just stop trying other solutions and save yourself the trouble...this is the best charger to have.
StarStarStarStarStar Great Charger!
User: J N, Jul 19, 2009

Pros:  Best charger out there
Cons:  none

Like stated before, i bought the Palm Part number 3437 and it didnt work. i think this is the one everyone has been having trouble with. This charger part number 3453 works flawlessly. Both products look exactly the same and come in the exact same outer packaging so its easy to get them mixed up.

To tell the difference, the good one comes in orange inner packaging and the bad one comes in blue. I think all retailers are switching to the new good one. But like i said, Ive tried many chargers and none work as good as or without trouble as this one. Buy this one NOW!
StarStarStarStarStar This charger will charge and run GPS Navigation
User: Karl Marsh, Jul 3, 2009

Pros:  Great
Cons:  None

2 of the reviewers are talking about a different charger. The one that is sold at Best Buy is Palm Part number 3437. This unit is made for the Treo 800w and the Treo Pro it is not made for the Pre. It does not put out enough power to charge the Pre while running GPS navigation.

The one for sell here at Precentral.net is Palm part number 3453 which is designed for the Palm Pre and will charge the Pre while running GPS navigation and streaming music.

The other reviewers need to get their facts straight.

Thanks

Charges phone from the car. Easy to use, connections are solid, good product.
StarStarStarStarStar Works good!
User: Glen M, Jul 31, 2009

Pros:  Keeps Pre Charged while running Apps
Cons:  Picks up some engine noise when streaming audio

This charger works! I have tested using with Pandora, Navigator, and bluetooth all on and the Pre still continues to charge. My only complaint with it is that it picks up some engine noise when I stream Pandora to my car stereo with it plugged in. Its not very much but its there.

StarStarStarStarStar Slick package if you dont drive a protege
User: John Moriconi, Jun 9, 2009
This charger seems to work great in every car Ive tried it in except for mine. If you happen to drive a late 90s or early 2000s model Protege, you might want to look into 3rd party chargers or youll end up using the detachable USB cable purely for PC connection.
StarStarStarStarStar Nice Charger, but doesnt work with extended life battery
User: Brett Sollinger, Jul 23, 2009

Pros:  Nice charger
Cons:  Doesnt have enough power to charge the exteded life battery

I bought this charger because as we all know the Pre has a short battery life. The only problem I noticed is trying to charge the extended life battery that I bought from Seido. It shows that the phone is charging, but if you use pandora or navigator while charging the battery actually gets lower. I dont think the charger has enough power to charge the extended life battery.
StarStarStarStarStar Works with one of our cars...
User: Chris S., Jul 8, 2009
This charger works with our Honda Accord very well. However, with our Toyota Camry the Pre charges very slowly. And yes, the plug is pushed in all the way.

FYI I purchased one of each part number (one from here and one directly from Palm) and the chargers ARE NOT DIFFERENT. The only difference is the other part number includes a small adapter so that you may charge your older Treo phones.
StarStarStarStarStar Nice but Noisy
User: Nathan Noel, Jul 6, 2009
The charger form factor is very nice... no stinky coiled cable. But when I play music through the Pre with the charger hooked up I get whiney engine noise through my speakers. Unplug the charger and the noise is gone. Im going to try a different charger to confirm that the problem is for sure the Palm charger. If charging is all you are doing then this will do.
StarStarStarStarStar This doesnt charge the Pre fast enough.
User: Sean Olesen, Jun 14, 2009

Pros:  The nice neat non-coiled cable.
Cons:  The charging speed is insufficient.

In the car the Pre can play Pandora and navigate you at the same time. The coiled Sprint brand charger provides enough charge to run those apps and provide extra battery charging. This device does not.

This is a really nice neat cable though and would be a better fit in my car than the coiled Sprint cable. I want to leave it attached to the universal mount I have on the dash (using a twist tie or what have you).
StarStarStarStarStar Design is not practical for "normal" use
User: Paul Distefano, Dec 2, 2009

Pros:  Charges phone if you never move it
Cons:  Cord too short. USB pulls out of adapter with slightest movement

I dont fully understand why Palm went with two piece USB cord / chargers. The cord supplied with the car charger is very short, and pulls out of the socket adapter very easily (Just like the two piece home charger cords). I bought this one because I am brand loyal, and wanted to stay with an OEM product. That was a mistake. I will look for an inexpensive all in one charger to replace this P.O.S.
StarStarStarStarStar This will charge ONLY palm USB cables.
User: Taylor York, Sep 4, 2009

Pros:  Works with the touchstone.
Cons:  -

This works ONLY with palm devices. Any other USB cable needs the sides shaved off to fit into this charger.

It does charge my touchstone, but i get an on-off-on dance every time my cars engine revs down. Im not sure if this is my cars fault, or the chargers.
StarStarStarStarStar It cant keep up with energy consumption of Nav.
User: Sean Olesen, Jun 28, 2009
The design of this in car charger is ideal, at least for me. Having the extra USB cable is nice. Not having to deal with a spring loaded coiled headache of a cable is great, too. The only problem, is that for the Pre, this thing cant keep up with the power drain caused by Sprint Nav. This will charge if the phone is not in use, and it will slow the drain of the Nav. I think its better to use the Sprint brand cord to charge the phone while running Navigator and Pandora.
StarStarStarStarStar Good for holding a charge but not actual charging.
User: Jev Van, Jun 18, 2009

Pros:  USB Plug so you can hook your phone up to your radio
Cons:  Doesnt work well as a charger

I bought the sprint charger while in the store the day of the Pre release. When I got home I was checking out accessories online when I saw this. I looked over at Palms web site and saw that they listed it as Pre compatible. So I returned the Sprint charger(unopened even) with the "yellow ring" and when over to best buy to get this one.

I like the form factor and the detachable USB plug is a big plus cause it allows me to hook my Pre up to my Pioneer radio. However this charger will only charge my phone when its not in use. This means no navigation or other active programs when I turn off the screen. If I turn on the phone for anything or fire up the Navigator, the battery will actually drain slowly or just hold where it is rather than charge.

I took this back and went back to sprint to get the Yellow Ring charger and it works like youd expect. It will charge even if Im running my GPS and talking on the phone.
StarStarStarStarStar Does not work!
User: c m, Dec 22, 2010
very disappointed. This does not work in my Hyundai Sonata! Had to buy a cheapo one to use in the car.
StarStarStarStarStar Incompatible
User: Nicole Heeder, Mar 21, 2010
Doesnt work in my Scion TC outlet. Will only work in my Honda Accord
StarStarStarStarStar Not Compatible
User: Suellen Harris, Jan 7, 2010
Does not work in my Honda Element outlet
StarStarStarStarStar VERY short cord
User: Marc Berris, Sep 7, 2009

Pros:  Works just fine
Cons:  Is WAY too short for most vehicles

Ive owned numerous car charging cords but never really gave much thought to just how long they were. That will change after buying this cord. The quality is just fine, but 2.5 feet is much too long to run from my vehicles center console outlet to my ear. Luckily I was able to swap the cord itself (since this is really two parts - a standard micro USB cord and a cigarette lighter plug that it plugs into) with the one that came with my Pre so I do not have a cord of sufficient length.
